Orthopaedic workshops in Kabul, Masar-i-Sharif and Bhamyan

Orthopaedic at work

Since 2005, Empor e.V. Germany is supporting the orthopaedic workshop of Empor Afghanistan in Kabul. In February 2010, a second workshop was opened in Kunduz. Both workshops are led by Wali Nawabi. They offer the following services:

Empor e.V. aims in the long term at establishing a nationwide network of orthopaedic workshops in Afghanistan. Thus, the supply of disabled and wounded will be permanently secured even after the international aid organisations will leave Afghanistan. To realise this plan, local specialists are trained and supported in establishing their own workshops, especially in rural and less served regions. With the proposed project Empor e. V. intends to contribute to the improvement of a local infrastructure and to launch a sustainable development.

Care for mine victims and disabled people

Every year about 140 adults and some 90 children and young people are supplied with orthopaedic aids from the workshop in Kabul. For the workshop in Kunduz currently no figures are available, as the shop was just opened in February 2010.

Most patients are destitute and cannot afford the care. Empor Germany is therefore trying to collect donations in material and cash so as to enable local work.
